Daniel, Old Ladies, And The Sovereignty of God

And older lady (almost 80) spoke up tonight, during Bible class at church. She sad something to the effect of, "What I've learned the most from the book of Daniel is that God is faithful. He is sovereign. And that Daniel was humble. He did the hard things. He was humbled before God. And God supplied him with everything he needed for a Godly life. He was a great man of God. And where are these men, today? There are not many great men willing to live humble lives, solid lives, holy lives, as Godly leaders of our society. Where are these men?!!"

And. So. Yeah. She called us out. And in the process, she quieted the crowd. But even though her words burned a little, I welcome them. Because sometimes maybe God uses old ladies to shake things up and to call out young men, reminding them of their purpose in the will of God.

Then I turned my face to the Lord God, seeking him by prayer and pleas for mercy with fasting and sackcloth and ashes. I prayed to the Lord my god and made confession, saying, O Lord, the great and made awesome God, who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those whom love him and keep his commandments, we have sinned and done wrong and acted wickedly and rebelled..." Daniel 9:13
For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written, "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the discernment of the discerning I will thwart." Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?..For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men." 1 Cor 1:18-20, 25.

Glory to God forever and ever. And blessed be the name of the Lord. "Blessed are all who take refuge in Him." Psalm 2:12. May God equip many Daniels to help lead this generation to repentance and salvation in the saving Grace of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
